Proverbs 4:26 is a beautiful summary of the 4th chapter of Proverbs, “Ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.
In chapter four we see the writer Soloman asking his children to hear wisdom. “She…. will deliver a crown of glory to you” and lead you “on the right paths”.
Let’s contrast the path of evil vs the path of wisdom:
Those who walk in the way of evil:
- V 16 – They do not sleep unless they have done evil
- V 17 – They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence
- V 19 – The way of the wicked is darkness. They don’t know what makes them stumble
- V 24 – Have a deceitful and perverse mouth
Those who walk in the way of wisdom:
- V 6 – She will keep you
- V 8 – Exalt her and she will promote you and bring you honor
- V 9 – She will place an ornament of grace and a crown of glory on your head
- V 10 – The years of your life will be many
- V 12 – Your steps will not be hindered. When you run you will not stumble
- V 13 – She is your life
- V 18 – The path of the just is a shining light that shines brighter and brighter till the end
- V 21 – Life and health is the way
